Black silicon carbide is harder than aluminum oxide and is thus generally used for the abrasive wheel, slurry, refractory and ceramic industries. They are specifically manufactured to be used for general abrasive applications in bonded abrasive tools, lapping and polishing processes. With a lower hardness and abrasive capacity than diamond or boron carbide, it is widely used for grinding nonferrous materials, finishing tough and hard materials, as well as filling up ceramic parts due to its lower cost. Other common applications include:
Ceramic, metal lapping, and polishing applications
Slicing of silicon carbide wafers
Rock and stone polishing and engraving
Slicing, lapping, and polishing glass and germanium wafers
Lapping of piston rings and gears
Grinding of nonferrous materials
Finishing tough and hard materials
Bonded abrasive tool applications
Glass etching and glass carving industries
Rock tumbling industries
Gradation Services: We offer custom gradation if your specific application requires it. We specialize in extremely fine, high purity, custom graded powders. (Do not order online if you require these services. Call us to discuss.) Alternately, if your application does not justify the cost of custom gradation, we can also pull various lot numbers currently in stock, and attempt to match an average micron particle size to meet your needs. Please call us for these services. We often take business away from other companies due to our ability to provide consistent gradation from order to order.
