Turkish Emery is a grinding and polishing media. It is used in finishing systems, emergy grinding machines, lapping and polishing applications, as well as emery paper products. Emery is very hard, like corundum, and will break down into rough, sharp grains. It is thus normally used for grinding, polishing, and dressing hard metals such as iron and steel. It is also used on glass, and sometimes softer items.
