Green SiC is made from Silica sand and coke, and is extremely pure. Hexagonally shaped, it breaks into very sharp particles. Green SiC is harder than black, coming in at a 9.4 Mohs and 2600 on the Knoop scale. Green is often the media of choice when it comes wire sawing.
Unless your application requires an extremely pure SiC, by default, black is preferred due to its more economic pricing, as well as availability.
This media is often sold by the drum (200 to 330#'s depending on the grit size), which requires us to work up a custom freight quotation. Please use our Quote Request form for this. However, you can order small, 50lb pails online.
Please note that the green is not always a stock item, and there may be a delay shipping. This is more true with the very coarse and very fine grit sizes. Send us an email and let us check inventory if your project cannot tolerate any sort of delay before placing an order.
