Brown fused aluminum oxide—also called brown fused alumina, brown aluminum oxide or BFA—is manufactured by reducing high-quality bauxite in an electric arc furnace. The resulting alpha-alumina abrasive combines high hardness with the toughness associated with brown fused alumina.
