Steel Ballast for General Purpose Applications:  Clean, screened and oil-free steel materials to meet your most stringent weight standards.   Our regular steel ballast is usually made up of reclaimed shot or grit.  It will have a density of 260-265#/cubic ft density.  We generally suggest a reclaimed S110, G70 or G80 media for general ballast applications due to availability of these sizes, packability, and price.  This media will be clean, screened, oil free, dust free, and free-flowing.  You will be able to pour it through a 1" diameter orifice if need be.   Let us know if you prefer other sizes.  We can supply most grit and shot sizes, however, the price might be higher depending on the size you choose. Sizes up to 1/4" are available but will be more expensive than finer sizes.

Steel Ballast for Radiation Shielding: Often our heavy cold forge steel ballast is mixed into concrete for hospitals and nuclear medicine facilities.  Larger projects can have cost limitations, so our heavy weight ballast can be mixed with lighter weight (and less expensive) ballast, in order to achieve radiation shielding specifications.  Depending on current inventory, we can supply up to a density of 300#/cubic foot.  We can supply either heavy weight, or light weight ballast, please contact us with your specifications.

Cold Worked Steel Ballast & Iron Aggregate is also available, and this particular product can be custom screened to your specifications in terms of both density as well as size.  This product has a greater density of 7.8 gm/cc vs. 7.0 gm/cc than steel shot.  Due to its more elongated particle shape, it will have reduced slump.  Due to it being a cold worked product, it is superior to cast steel shot when used for high density concrete applications.  This item is usually a much coarser product than usual ballast.  Commonly ordered sizes are a minus 3, 4, 5, and 6 mesh.  Quantities range from one ton to thousands of tons.  It is readily available to be custom screened according to your density and sizing specifications.

Pricing: Cost is based on type of ballast you are requesting, your required specific density (required pounds per cubic feet), as well as the quantity ordered. We suggest you calculate the exact square feet of space you need to fill, then determine what minimum density will meet your needs. Costs rise as you increase the #/cu.ft. Therefore, if you have lots of space and do not need ballast with a high #/cu.ft. specification, then go with a cheaper, but lower #/cu.ft. product.

Our material is perfect for shipbuilding, counterweight, heavy machinery ballast, grout, concrete additive for radiation shielding and heavyweight concrete applications, bridge building (anti-vibration), etc.

All metallic abrasives are sold by the net ton, or per 2,000lbs. Due to the heavy weight of this material, you cannot purchase this material online.
